Bears First Game
September 1, was a great day for Bolton Baseball Club. Months of hard work and preparation led to the junior team playing their first game against Manchester. A game all members of the newly named Bears were looking forward to playing.
On what turned out to be a bright sunny day the Bears showed up to play displaying all they have learned over the past few months. Bolton Baseball would like to thank John Eaton, Chris Woodall and members of Manchester junior team for taking the time to help during the game. The Bear’s had great support as many parents and family members attended, something we would like to see continue.
From the idea in January to set up a kids program to its first game the program has relied on several people’s hard work. Early on Jamie Sherlock and Matthew Norburn visited schools and leisure centres trying to recruit new players, unfortunately they were poorly attended and worries set in. Not willing to give up and understanding that this program was vital to the success of the club we continued to push on and it has paid off.
Aiding to the success so far has been the help of Ingo Gottwald (BSUK), Neil Hart (Bolton Council) and Dominic Gavin (St James’s). However, the key to our success has been the hard work and dedication shown by our own John Baxendale and Lee Heaton who have taken on the task of running the junior team.
Bolton Baseball Club will continue to develop a program aimed at learning and enjoyment of the game within Bolton.
